MANILA – Tropical Depression (TD) Rosal will dampen several areas in Luzon as well as Western Visayas, the weather bureau said Saturday.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Rosal will cause moderate to heavy, with at times intense rains over the Bicol Region and Quezon province.

The TD will also bring moderate to heavy rains over Mimapora and Western Visayas.

Rosal is forecast to cause light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Aurora province and the rest of Calabarzon and the Visayas.

Flooding and rain-induced landslides are expected, especially in areas highly susceptible to these hazards, according to PAGASA.

Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been hoisted over the northern portion of Catanduanes (Pandan, Gigmoto, Bagamanoc, Panganiban, Viga, Caramoran). These areas may experience strong winds.

In the next 24 hours, occasional gusts associated with the northeast monsoon may also be experienced over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Apayao, and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte and Cagayan provinces.

Rough to very rough seas may prevail over the seaboards of Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, the northern coast of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and the eastern coast of Cagayan.

PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small sea vessels not to venture out into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.

Rosal is forecast to intensify while moving over the Philippine Sea and reach the tropical storm category in the next 24 hours.

It is expected to weaken into a tropical depression on Monday, and further weaken into a remnant low on Tuesday.

Stranded

Gremil Alexis Naz, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Bicol spokesperson, said in an interview that 43 passengers, eight rolling cargoes and eight passenger vessels are stranded in ports due to the cancellation of sea travel.

"Stranded passengers are from Tabaco and Legazpi ports in Albay and San Andres and Virac ports in Catanduanes," Naz said, referring to the Philippine Coast Guard report.

No evacuation has been reported yet.

OCD - Bicol disaster risk reduction management division chief Jessar Adornado previously said a red alert status has been raised during an online regional pre-disaster risk assessment meeting on Thursday.

"It could be a possible move for the council as a whole or by the agency to help different provinces and we will now activate again our virtual Emergency Operations Center," Adornado said during the  meeting. (PNA)
