MANILA— The Sandiganbayan has fined a former member of the Camarines Norte provincial board for failure to account for cash advances he received for his official travels.

In a three-page decision promulgated Dec. 7, Sandiganbayan 2nd Division Associate Justice Oscar Herrera found Angelo Timoteo Molina guilty of failure to render accounts under Art. 218 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to Sec. 89 of Presidential Decree No. 1445 or the Government Auditing Code.

The case stemmed from Molina’s failure to account for cash advances from his travels when he was an ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Camarines Norte in March 2007.

It did not mention, however, how much was the actual amount of the unaccounted cash advance.

Herrera ordered Molina to pay the court PHP1,000 and the provincial government a total of PHP25,517.

"He is hereby sentenced to pay a fine of PHP1,000. The Court also finds accused Molina civilly liable and is hereby ordered to pay to the provincial government of Camarines Norte the amount of PHP25,517," the court said. (PNA)
