Online firecracker seller nabbed

MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday arrested a 24-year-old man for selling illegal firecrackers online in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

The suspect was identified as David Michael Carpio.

Carpio was nabbed by operatives of the PNP Cyber Research Unit together with the Manila District Anti-Cybercrime Team and Explosive Management Division of the Firearms Explosives Office around 5 p.m. in front of a supermarket in Sta. Mesa.

Confiscated from the suspect's possession were 200 pieces of oversized 5-Star King Kong firecrackers, PHP7,000 cash, PHP1,000 bill (dusted money), one iPhone 11, one IPhone SE, and identification cards.

The suspect will face charges for violation of RA 7183 (An Act Regulating The Sale, Manufacture, Distribution, and Use of Firecrackers and Other Pyrotechnic Devices in relation to Sec. 6 of RA 10175 otherwise known as "Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012."

He was brought to the PNP ACG headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City for proper documentation and physical examination.

"Muli, ang ating paalala sa publiko na isaalang-alang nila ang kaligtasan ng bawat myembro ng pamilya sa panahon ng pagdiriwang ng Kapaskuhan at Bagong taon, at huwag tangkilikin ang mga ipinagbabawal na paputok upang maiwasan ang anumang sakunang maaaring idulot nito (Once again, we remind the public to consider the safety of each family member during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, and do not patronize the use of prohibited fireworks to avoid any disaster it may cause)," said PNP public information officer, Col. Redrico A Maranan. (PNA)
