MANILA – Malick Diouf has been named the Most Valuable Player of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) men's basketball tournament.

The University of the Philippines (UP) center was formally handed the award on Wednesday night prior to Game 2 of the championship series against Ateneo at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Diouf, a 6-foot-11 Senegalese national, amassed a total of 73.9 statistical points, beating Forthsky Padrigao, who had 71.6, for the top individual prize.

"I just want to say thank you for this blessing," said Diouf, who averaged 10.8 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 1.5 steals during the elimination round.

Joining Diouf and Padrigao in the Mythical Five are Diouf's fellow Fighting Maroon Carl Tamayo, Padrigao's fellow Blue Eagle Dave Ildefonso, and UE Red Warrior Luis Villegas.

On the other hand, La Salle's Kevin Quiambao was awarded the Rookie of the Year.

Quiambao, who became a Gilas Pilipinas mainstay even before his collegiate career began, beat National University's Kean Baclaan and UE's Gani Stevens for the top freshman award. (PNA)
