DAVAO CITY – The provincial government of Davao Oriental has been cited in the national level for its anti-drug performance, programs and campaigns, an official said Thursday.

In a statement, provincial information officer Karen Lou Deloso said the award was bestowed to the province after it garnered a perfect score in the Anti-Drug Council Functionality Audit and Awarding Assessment for 2021.

Deloso said the award was received by Leopoldo Imbang Jr., the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) action officer, in Manila on Dec. 13 during the 2022 National Anti-drug Abuse Council Performance Awards.

“Given by the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the award is conferred to local government units (LGUs) with effective and efficient performance in terms of planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs of the national government's anti-illegal drugs campaign,” Deloso said.

Currently, 168 of the province’s 183 barangays are declared drug-cleared, while five others are drug-free.

Davao Oriental is also the only area in the region that has the provincial government-run Balay Silangan Reformation Center for drug reformists.

“The other LGUs in the province that also received the same accolade are Mati City and the municipalities of Lupon and Boston,” Deloso said.

Since its establishment in 2019, the facility has produced 229 outpatients and 19 inpatient graduates. (PNA)
