MANILA – An additional 200 Grab car rental fleet dedicated to servicing passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) can be expected, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced Thursday.

The MIAA said the additional 200 Grab cars will be deployed beginning Thursday, Dec. 15.

"These are additional (units) dedicated to pick up (passengers from the airport). After dropping the passengers off, the cars would return to the airport for another pick up," the MIAA told the Philippine News Agency.

According to the MIAA, these dedicated transport units will charge fixed prices depending on drop off locations and will not implement surge charges.

The regular Grab cars and taxis that anyone can book with surge charges will remain available, MIAA clarified.

MIAA General Manager Cesar Chiong who initiated talks with Grab for this partnership program.

In anticipation of the passenger surge this holiday season, the MIAA and Grab joined hands for this "Airport to Anywhere" (ATA) program, which the MIAA said can be booked via the Grab mobile application.

The PNA checked the app at 12:25 p.m. and set the pick up points at NAIA Terminals 1 and 3 to see the availability of either "ATA" or dedicated vehicles with fixed prices. However, only the regular Grab vehicles and taxis and their fare matrixes were seen.

The MIAA management is expecting a 13 to 15 percent increase in the passenger volume during the peak season, or from Dec. 15 to early January.

The average total daily number of passengers to and from all NAIA terminals is 100,480 in November 2022. There were 3.1 million passengers at the airport last month which is 229 percent higher compared to the same period in 2021. (PNA)
