Ormoc City eyes E. Visayas entertainment capital tag

TACLOBAN CITY – Ormoc City is positioning to become the entertainment capital of Eastern Visayas region as they came up with a concert wish list, said actor-turned-politician, Leyte 4th district Representative Richard Gomez.

“After the success of Martin Nievera’s concert on December 11 in Ormoc, we are planning to invite more artists for future entertainment events here,” Gomez told reporters here on Thursday.

Nievera, dubbed as the country’s concert king of the Philippines was the featured artist during the giant tree lighting ceremony, which was attended by more than 50,000 audience.

Gomez said he hopes to bring the Eraserheads band and television host Vice Ganda next year to entertain the residents and visitors.

“Ormoc is now gaining ground as the entertainment capital in the region as the city managed to stage concerts and events,” Gomez said, adding that it recently had big artists in the city such as Asia's song bird Regine Velasquez, her husband Ogie Alcasid, Rey Valera, and other stars in the entertainment industry..

These concerts held either at the Ormoc City Stage or Ormoc Superdome had attracted up to 80,000 music lovers, according to the city government.

Ormoc is a first-class independent component city in Eastern Visayas with a population of 230,998 as of 2020.

The city is the major commercial hub in northwestern Leyte Island. (PNA)
