SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award is a convincing tool that there is transparency and good governance in the province of Antique, Governor Rhodora Cadiao said Friday after receiving the prestigious award for local government units (LGUs).

In a phone interview, Cadiao, who received the SGLG Award on Dec. 15 at the Manila Hotel, said the award was given after thorough assessment from regional and national teams of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

“The SGLG is the highest award from the DILG, and this is already the second time that Antique bagged the award,” Cadiao said.

Antique first received the SGLG in 2018

Aside from the provincial government, the towns of Barbaza, Patnongon, San Jose de Buenavista and Sebaste also received SGLG awards under the municipal categories.

According to Local Government Operations Officer VI Darrelle Thea Abad, the provincial government and the four towns were assessed based on the 10 governance areas namely financial administration; disaster preparedness; social protection; health compliance and responsiveness; sustainable education; business friendliness and competitiveness; environmental management; safety and peace and order; tourism, heritage development, culture and the arts; and youth and development.

“Local government units have to pass all the 10 governance areas for them to be able to receive the SGLG award,” Abad said in a separate interview.

DILG provides a SGLG Incentive Fund that comes with the award to the winning LGUs for their priority projects.

Abad said the SGLG Incentive Fund for provincial governments is more than PHP9 million, while the four municipalities will receive around PHP5 million each.

The awarding ceremony was graced by Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos, Jr. (PNA)
