MANILA – Vice President and concurrent Education Secretary Sara Duterte on Wednesday lauded teachers in the country for their dedication, love, and service to Filipino children.

“Maraming salamat sa inyong dedikasyon sa inyong trabaho at pagmamahal sa mga batang Pilipino. Sa kabila ng mga dagok na ating dinanas dulot ng pandemya at iba’t ibang sakuna, hindi kayo tumalikod sa tawag ng serbisyo publiko (Thank you very much for your work and love for the Filipino children. Despite the trials that we have faced because of the pandemic and other disasters, you did not turn your backs from your calling to public service),” she said in a prerecorded Christmas video message.

“Mahalaga ang inyong papel sa ating pag-unlad bilang isang bansa, hangad ko ay isang tunay na kaligayan para sa inyong lahat sa pagdiriwang ng Pasko (Your role in the success of our country is important, I truly hope all of you will experience real joy this Christmas),” she added.

The education chief also expressed hopes for a prosperous year for all teachers and DepEd personnel.

“Sana ay maging mapayapa, masagana, at puno ng pagmamahal at pag-asa ang inyong bagong taon (I hope your new year would be peaceful, prosperous, and be filled with love and hope),” she said.

Duterte’s Christmas message was presented during the Department of Education (DepEd)’s hybrid Thanksgiving celebration.

The program was intended to honor the accomplishments of all DepEd teachers and personnel this year, with their theme “Maningning ang Pasko kung sama-sama tayo (Christmas is bright if we are all together).”

Cash incentives

Before the Thanksgiving celebration, Duterte approved the Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) for all qualified employees for 2022.

In a Facebook post, DepEd Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla disclosed the memorandum advising the SRI grant.

“DepEd shall provide a rate of Fifteen Thousand Pesos (PHP15,000) SRI per eligible employee,” the memo indicated.

“Finance Undersecretary Annalyn M. Sevilla has been instructed to process and release the SRI not earlier than December 20, 2022, but not later than January 6, 2023,” it added.

The PHP15,000 incentive is said to be released in cash instead of the usual crediting to employees’ ATM payroll accounts. (PNA)
