MANILA –The humanitarian arm of the Archdiocese of Manila Wednesday asked the public to help the victims of the floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains during Christmas weekend in Misamis Occidental.

In a social media post, Caritas Manila called for donations that will provide relief and rehabilitation assistance to hundreds of families affected by the natural calamity.

“Your voluntary support for this fundraising campaign will go a long way in helping communities and families recover from the devastation caused by the flooding. Their immediate needs are ready-to-eat foods, water, hygiene kits, medicine kits,” it said.

“You may share your blessings through the donation portals below or visit https://www.caritasmanila.org.ph/online-cash-donation/ For other inquiries, you may call dial 8562 0020 to 25 local 118, 139, 135, or 0917.595.5083,” the Caritas Manila added.

Local churches of the Archdiocese of Ozamis have responded immediately.

“The affected parishes have given shelter for those whose houses have been washed out or damaged by the flood and have also welcomed evacuees from high-risk areas,” Caritas Manila said.

Food packages, hygiene kits, clothing and other necessities were handed to the victims through their Parish Social Action.

Earlier, Ozamiz Archbishop Martin Jumoad asked the faithful for prayers and assistance for the people affected by the floods.

At least seven persons died in Misamis Occidental while 16,200 others have been displaced due to floods and landslides resulting from heavy rains brought by the shear line in Northern Mindanao. (PNA)
