MANILA – The Chinese Embassy in Manila donated PHP1 million to assist victims of the shear line-induced rains and flash floods in Misamis Occidental.

Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian said the amount would be coursed through SMNI Foundation which organized relief operations in the area.

"Help is on the way to our friends in flood-affected areas. The Chinese Embassy in Manila donated one million pesos to support families affected by the recent Christmas weekend flood in Misamis Occidental," Huang said Friday.

"May this aid reach our Filipino friends in need soon. By working together hand-in-hand, China and the Philippines can overcome any hurdle," he added.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that the death toll from torrential rains has ballooned to 44 while 12 others were hurt and 28 more remained missing.

Six fatalities were recorded in the Bicol region, three in Eastern Visayas, four in Zamboanga Peninsula, 24 in Northern Mindanao, four in Davao, and three in Caraga. (PNA)
