CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – More than 69,000 residents in Central Luzon have registered as voters for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in October this year.

Lawyer Elmo Duque, assistant regional director of the Commission on Elections-Central Luzon (Comelec-3), said on Wednesday that a total of 69,351 individuals have so far registered in the entire region since the resumption of the voters' registration on Dec. 12, 2022.

Duque said the number of registrants in the region is still low with only three weeks before the registration period ends on Jan. 31.

He said that the target number of registrants for the BSKE is around 110,000 across Central Luzon.

He encouraged qualified individuals to register as the activity will end this month.

“Yun datos natin ay nagpapakita na medyo konti ang nagpa-participate sa ating registration, kaya hinihikayat nating ang taong bayan na magparticipate (Our data showed that it is a big low those who participated in our registration, thus we are encouraging the public to participate and be prompt in the registration),” Duque said in an interview.

He likewise asked the public to avoid long queues as a result of last-minute registration.

He said that all municipal and city elections offices are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

“Those who wish to register should bring a government-issued valid identification card or birth certificate or school records,” he added.

Qualified to register for the barangay election are those aged 18 years old and above, or who will turn 18 before the election.

For the SK elections, qualified voters are youngsters from 15 to 17 years old. (PNA)
