MANILA – The Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) on Thursday said the repairs on the sludge removal equipment in their treatment plant in Putatan, Muntinlupa City is now 75 percent finished.
“We wish to inform the public that repairs on the sludge removal equipment is now 75% complete. This has enabled us to increase water production to 91%, and gradually reduce the number of affected customers or lengthen the supply availability duration,” Maynilad said in a statement sent to the Philippine News Agency on Thursday.
Maynilad made the assurance following the water service interruptions due to the reduced production of their treatment plant in Muntinlupa City as it accepted the findings of the investigation of the Metropolitan Manila Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS-RO) and volunteered to pay a rebate to the affected customers.
“We have accepted the result of MWSS RO’s investigation and volunteered to pay a rebate to our customers in the south who were recently affected by water service interruptions,” Maynilad said.
“Said interruptions were due to the reduced production of our treatment plant in Putatan, Muntinlupa, resulting from a damaged sludge removal equipment, coupled with a rise in turbidity levels of the raw water from Laguna Lake,” it added.
The water company noted that they are now only stabilizing the treatment plant’s system to revert back to normal levels by end of the month of earlier.
“Currently, we are just stabilizing the plant’s system that was affected by the defective equipment, and monitoring the turbidity trend in the raw water supply. Barring any complications, water service should revert to normal levels by end of January 2023 or earlier,” Maynilad said.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base.
It is the concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite province.
