MANILA – Manila archbishop emeritus Cardinal Gaudencio Rosales is in the hospital and in stable condition.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) news website reported on Thursday that Fr. Reginald Malicdem, spokesperson of the Archdiocese of Manila, in a social media post showed pictures of the cardinal at an undisclosed hospital in Metro Manila.

“I visited Cardinal Dency the other day. According to doctors, his condition is stable. He just needs to stay in the hospital for a few more days for monitoring. We continue to pray for him,” added Malicdem, who worked as a former private secretary of Rosales.

It added that Malicdem made the statement after posts spread on social media calling for prayers for the health of the 90-year-old cardinal.

The former archbishop of Manila has reportedly been in the hospital since Jan. 6.

Rosales served the archdiocese from 2003 until his retirement in 2011. (PNA)
