MANILA – The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has released PHP35.35 million in medical assistance to a total of 4,704 eligible beneficiaries nationwide from Jan. 9 to 13.

Citing data released on Wednesday, the state lottery agency said the funds were released to beneficiaries through its Medical Access Program (MAP).

The beneficiaries include 625 indigents from the National Capital Region who received PHP7.8 million worth of assistance; 898 from Northern and Central Luzon who were given PHP7.5 million; and 1,247 from the Southern Tagalog and Bicol Region who received PHP7.4 million.

In the Visayas, 874 individuals were provided with PHP6.1 million in medical aid while 1,060 individuals received PHP6.3 million in Mindanao.

The MAP, formerly known as the Individual Medical Assistance Program, is designed to augment medical assistance for indigent Filipinos, particularly for hospital confinement, chemotherapy, dialysis, and post-transplant medicines.

The program is funded by revenues from PCSO games nationwide. (PNA)
