Bacolod cops net almost P95-M 'shabu' in 2022

BACOLOD CITY – Anti-drug units of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) seized PHP94.454 million worth of shabu and arrested 594 drug personalities in various operations in 2022, data released on Wednesday showed.

During January to December last year, 13,890.44 grams of shabu pegged at PHP6,800 per gram were recovered in drug enforcement operations of the City Drug Enforcement Unit and other police stations across the city.

"I commend the men and women of BCPO for their accomplishments in the past year, for their relentless efforts through police initiated operations to lessen criminality," Col. Thomas Joseph Martir said in a statement.

In 2022, the city police here launched 511 anti-drug operations, leading to the arrest of 594 drug personalities.

Those arrested included 538 street-level and 38 high-value individuals as well as six minors and 12 newly-identified drug personalities.

Records further showed 811 cases were filed in court against drug personalities for violations of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Among the major operations resulted in the arrest of Barangay Alijis village councilor Abby Araneta, 28; and her companion Freely Boy Aldas, 39; both tagged as high-value individuals.

Araneta was found in possession of 201 grams of shabu worth PHP1.37 million during a buy-bust in November.

In October, a couple yielded 1.25 kilograms of suspected shabu worth PHP8.5 million during a buy-bust at their house in Purok Bolinao, Barangay 1.

They were identified as Alvin Cristales, 27; and partner Regina Escosio, 44, tagged as high-value individuals (HVIs).
