MANILA – An American national wanted in the state of Texas in the United States for sexually assaulting a disabled woman three years ago was arrested in Quezon City, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported on Tuesday.

In a statement, Commissioner Norman Tansingco said Calvert Leroy Cummings, 68, was nabbed at a subdivision in Novaliches, by members of the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) last Jan. 17.

His arrest was sought by US authorities in Manila who requested his deportation so he could stand trial for his crime.

Tansingco said Cummings will be deported after the BI board of commissioners issues the order for his summary deportation.

Cummings will be placed on the immigration blacklist and banned from re-entering the country.

BI-FSU chief Rendel Ryan Sy said a court in Aransas County, Texas issued a warrant against Cummings in September 2019 after he was indicted on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a disabled person.

Cummings fled to the Philippines to evade arrest and prosecution for his crime.

Cummings is now at the BI’s facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings. (PNA)
