MANILA – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. expressed hope that the new facilities of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) would strengthen the unit in its mandate of upholding road safety for motorists.

Azurin made this remark during Tuesday's inauguration of the HPG's newly built function hall in Camp Crame, the PNP Public Information Office said in a news release on Thursday.

“These new facilities are a tangible representation of your commitment to further improve your premises to cater to the needs of HPG personnel. Your group plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of all road users and it is important that you have the necessary resources and facilities to carry out your mandate and duties effectively," the PNP chief said.

He also commended the efforts of HPG chief Brig. Gen. Clifford B. Gairanod which resulted in various accomplishments for the unit.

“The notable accomplishments of your group in the areas of anti-carnapping, highway robbery, and hijacking this past year exemplifies perseverance, commitment, and competency of all 'guardians of the highways'," Azurin added.

He also took a tour of the training classrooms, covered parking area, and proposed driving area.

The function hall will serve as a venue for training, meetings, and other activities of the group, while training classrooms and the proposed driving area will provide the necessary space to train personnel in the latest techniques and skills in patrolling and traffic management.

The covered parking area will not only provide shade for HPG vehicles but will also protect them from weather elements, thus extending their service life. (PNA)
