PH to host Women's 3x3 International Invitational on Feb. 4-5

The Philippines will host the Women's 3x3 International Invitational on Feb. 4-5 at the Robinsons Magnolia in Quezon City. MANILA – All is set for the staging of the Philippine Women's 3x3 International Invitational on Feb. 4-5 at the Robinsons Magnolia in Quezon City.

Twelve teams from five countries are vying for the USD3,000 in cash top prize in the tournament billed as "Manila Hustle 3x3" and presented by Uratex and SMART. The second and third runners-up will receive USD2,000 and USD1,000, respectively.

Janine Pontejos, a member of the 2019 SEA Games champion team, will spearhead the Lady Macbeth Riots, one of six local squads joining the event. The others are Uratex Dream Philippines, Uratex Tibay Philippines, Discovery Perlas, Angelis Resort and Army Altama.

Also participating are Owls.Exe Kujukuri and Zoos Tokyo (Japan), 1Eyehansol and G2L2 (Korea), Jumpshot (Singapore) and Shoot It Dragon (Thailand).

Uratex Managing Director Peachy Medina said the tournament "aims to deliver a highly-quality event featuring elite women basketball. In the process, we hope to hype up the growing sport of women’s 3x3 basketball in the world, uplifting all its passionate players, coaches, and fans, while delivering a great fan and player experience."

Slam dunk and shootout contests will also be held to spice up the tournament with volleyball icon Alyssa Valdez and basketball star JayJay Helterbrand to serve as judges.

The formal launching of the event at the Summit Hotel in Greenhills, San Juan City on Thursday was attended Medina, SMART First Vice President and Head of Sports Jude Turcuato and Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas secretary general Sonny Barrios. (PNA)
