COTABATO CITY – Policemen have arrested the Soccsksargen Region’s most wanted person, a communist rebel, during a law enforcement operation in Magpet town, North Cotabato province, an official said Tuesday.

Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg, director of Police Regional Office–Soccsksargen (PRO-12), said police collared Roberto Candiban, 49, of Barangay Bagumbayan, Magpet, on Monday afternoon.

“Candiban did not resist arrest when found,” he said in a statement.

Macaraeg said Candiban, a New People’s Army (NPA) rebel, was arrested following an information received by the Magpet municipal police station about his presence in the village.

Candiban has pending arrest warrants for murder, frustrated murder, and attempted murder issued by a regional court in Kidapawan City.

Police records showed that Candiban was the co-accused of the late Eduardo Arnado, secretary of the NPA Guerilla Front 53, South Mindanao Region Committee, for multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder charges.

“I congratulate our dedicated PRO-12 personnel who ensured the success of the police operation,” Macaraeg said. (PNA)
