BACOLOD CITY – A farmers' organization assisted by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental province has obtained approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the production of ginger and turmeric with lemongrass tea.

Based in Sitio Ilaranan, Barangay Codcod, the Codcod Agrarian Reform Community Cooperative (CARCC) has been granted a license to operate (LTO) as a food manufacturer for two years until Jan. 16, 2025.

The CARCC is manufacturing ginger and turmeric with lemongrass tea as a beneficiary of the Village Level Farms-focused Enterprise Development partnership project between the DAR and the Department of Trade and Industry.

"The constant training of CARCC on food safety qualified them for the FDA LTO," said Teresita Mabunay, provincial agrarian reform program officer II of DAR Negros Occidental-I (North), in a statement on Tuesday.

Agrarian reform beneficiary (ARB) organizations follow food safety as a written procedure in food processing to prevent direct contamination or adulteration of the products.

They undergo training under the support services team of the Program Beneficiaries Development Division as part of the implementation of the VLFED project.

The 209-member CARCC, which manages 273 hectares of agricultural land, plants sugarcane, rice, corn, coconut, and vegetables as main crops. (PNA)
