MANILA – Passengers in the National Capital Region (NCR) received roses from personnel of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) in celebration of Valentine’s Day on Tuesday.

In a Facebook post, the DOTr said a total of 1,500 roses were given away at the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) Antipolo station, the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) Shaw Boulevard station, the Philippine National Railways (PNR) Tutuban station and at Entrance 2 of the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).

“The PCG (Philippine Coast Guard) deployed 80 personnel, including members of the PCG Combo, to assist the DOTr railways sector and the PITX in entertaining the commuters and giving 250 roses in each location from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.,” it said.

Aside from giving out roses, PCG personnel serenaded passengers with live musical performances at the MRT-3.

Meanwhile, traffic enforcers of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) surprised female motorists by giving away roses instead of tickets during traffic stops.

“A total of 24 female senior citizens and persons with disability aboard modern and traditional jeepneys, taxis, UV Express, and PUBs (public utility buses) along Balintawak and Quezon Avenue in Quezon City received the flowers,” the LTFRB said in a statement.

LTFRB chair Teofilo Guadiz III said the special operation in celebration of Valentine’s Day will help passengers lighten their mood.

Nais po ng LTFRB na bigyan ng kahit na kaunting good vibes man lang ang ating mga pasahero ngayong araw ng mga puso dahil alam naman po natin ang kanilang dinadanas na stress sa araw araw na biyahe (The LTFRB wishes to give out good vibes to our passengers during this Valentine’s Day because we know the stress they experience in their daily commute),” Guadiz said.
