MANILA – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said its preparations are underway for the "Buhay Ingatan, Droga Ayawan (BIDA) Bayanihan ng Mamamayan Fun Run" at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on Feb. 26

In a statement on Thursday, Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. said at least 10,000 participants from various sectors are expected to join the nearly three-kilometer fun run, which is one of the strategies to gain support for the BIDA advocacy.

"Isang paraan din ang BIDA Fun Run para ipakita ang suporta at pagkakaisa ng mga mamamayan sa kampanya para tuluyang wakasan ang iligal na droga (The BIDA Fun Run is also one way to support and unite the people in the campaign to totally end illegal drug use),’’ Abalos said.

He stressed that the BIDA fun run and other sports activities are key factors to having a stronger community as well as a major element to encourage the youth to be productive members of society instead of indulging themselves in illegal drugs.

Abalos also invited the public to take advantage of the “Serbisyo Caravan (Service Caravan)” where some 10 government agencies will participate.

Some of the services available in the caravan include passport application, sim card registration, driver's license application and renewal, blood type testing, x-ray, mammogram, and police clearance.

Abalos reminded those who wish to avail of the services to be ready with the required documents to expedite the process of their application.

The DILG chief urged the public to contact the DILG Office of the Assistant Secretary for Community Participation at the Central Office for more information. (PNA)
