MANILA – The Universal Reality Combat Championship will hold the URCC 83: Bloodline on March 4 at the Zamboanga del Norte Cultural Sports Complex.
The main event features Filipino-Swiss mixed martial artist Chris Hofmann against South Korean Kim Min Seok.
Hofmann is currently with the URCC, fighting in the middleweight and light heavyweight divisions.
Dapitan City Mayor Seth Frederick "Bullet" Jalosjos is excited to host the event, saying the "URCC 83: Bloodline" will continue the legacy of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, who was a martial arts teacher during his four-year exile in Dapitan.
"Aside from preservation and promotion of the life and works of our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, we give importance to the benefits of martial arts such as promoting healthy lifestyle and self-defense that is why our city and the provincial government is hosting the ‘URCC 83: Bloodline’, the first and only professional mixed martial arts event to be witnessed by our people in reality," Jalosjos said during the event's formal launching at the Arbor Lanes in ARCA South, Taguig City on Monday.
Jalosjos, an MMA enthusiast who trained alongside URCC founder and president Alvin Aguilar, said the event aims to encourage the youth to get into sports and stay away from vices such as illegal drugs.
“Furthermore, this event is expected to invite more tourist arrivals and would help in improving the livelihood and tourism sectors in Dapitan and the whole Zamboanga del Norte," he added.
Aguilar, also the president of the Wrestling Association of the Philippines, said: "Chris ( Hofmann), regarded as our Manny Pacquiao in MMA is facing a very tough opponent who is raring to fight our two-division champion. The Korean challenge was called even before the pandemic. Now, it will come to reality, the moment of truth will be on March 4 in Dapitan City. Bakbakan na!" (PNA)
