MANILA – The Department of Tourism (DOT) on Wednesday said the death of a tourist from New Zealand after resisting a robbery on Sunday is an "isolated incident" and does not reflect the millions of "peace-loving" Filipinos in the country.

“The Department of Tourism condemns in the strongest possible terms the criminal act befalling a visiting tourist resulting in his untimely demise,” the agency statement read.

In a separate interview, Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco extended condolences to the kin of the foreign tourist.

The DOT said Frasco had personally discussed the matter with the Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. The DILG chief assured the steadfast resolution of the case.

“The DOT is actively working with the concerned authorities, primarily the Philippine National Police and has reached out to concerned embassy officials to lend the necessary assistance,” it said.

The DOT assured that concerned Philippine government agencies are working closely to ensure the security of all tourists visiting the country.

The foreigner, identified as Nicholas Peter Stacey, was killed after still unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle tried to rob them while he and his girlfriend were walking along Filmore Street in Barangay Palanan, Makati City on Sunday night. (PNA)
