MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday said it is all set to hold the special elections in the seventh legislative district of the province of Cavite on Saturday.

Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said everything has been prepared for the activity, including the vote counting machines as voters will be using an automated election system (AES) to elect their new representative.

"All vote counting machines are ready as we will be using the automated system. We will shade the ballots and use the VCMs. Do not worry. All contingency measures, including extra machines, have been prepared," the poll body official added.

Laudiangco said around 355,184 voters are expected to participate in the special polls.

There are four aspirants running for the polls -- Crispin Diego Diaz Remulla (National Unity Party), and independent candidates, Jose Angelito Domingo Aguinaldo, Melencio Loyola De Sagun, Jr. and Michael Angelo Bautista Santos.

Crispin Diego is the son of former district Representative Jesus Crispin Remulla, who vacated the post when he was appointed as Secretary of the Department of Justice.

The special polls were set after the House of Representatives passed a resolution declaring a vacancy in the district.

Since the scheduled polls will be using the AES, the Comelec said there will be a random manual audit (RMA) to be held in selected clustered precincts.

It added that the selection of the precincts will commence after the closing of polls at the Legislative Building of the Cavite Provincial Capitol Compound in Trece Martires City at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The RMA will be held at The Bayleaf Cavite in General Trias City on Sunday. (PNA)
