BTA magazine dedicates February issue to Bessarbian Bulgarians

February 27, 2023, 5:23 pm

BULGARIA – The February issue of the LIK (Literature, Culture and Arts) magazine is dedicated to the war in Ukraine with a focus on the Bulgarians there, Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Director General Kiril Valchev said at the official presentation of the issue on Feb. 24.

Valchev defined as logical the decision to dedicate the new February issue to the war that started a year ago in Europe, although both sides say that this war did not actually start on Feb. 24, 2022.

However, BTA will put the emphasis on the ethnic Bulgarians in Ukraine, he added.

He expressed his regret of the fact that in 2023 the information BTA had about the Bulgarian community in the Ukrainian part of Bessarabia was not enough.

“We are planning to find a place and open a BTA press club in Odessa in the next month,” he added.

BTA's strategic goal is to work for the Bulgarians as a community, no matter where they are in the world, and the Bulgarians in the Ukrainian and Moldovan part of Bessarabia are an extremely valuable source of knowledge about Bulgarism, Valchev said.

He noted that BTA has had news from Bessarabia for a long time, and gave an example with the 110th anniversary of the establishment of the Central School in Bolgrad in 1968.

But the big focus of the issue is the news from February 2022 to February 2023, which was received almost daily, thanks to the special editorial office, the BTA website section "BG World" and to representatives of the Bulgarian community, Valchev said.

He said the news BTA receives from the Bulgarians in Ukrainian Bessarabia is that there is a place in the world where Bulgaria is a dream for the locals.

He noted that in the last year there has been another reason for these people in Ukrainian Bessarabia to consider Bulgaria a dream - it is peace. (BTA)
