MANILA – Bethel Academy defeated Santo Niño de Praga, 25-21, 21-25, 25-19, in the battle of Cavite teams in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) U-18 Championships at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Friday.

“The girls have the skills, the technics and the fundamentals, what they need to polish is their attitude toward a match -- to never doubt themselves,” said coach Ludlo Dulce.

It was the second straight victory for the General Trias City-based Bethel Academy, which snapped the four-game winning streak of Santo Niño de Praga of Trece Martires City in the tournament organized by the PNVF headed by Ramon "Tats" Suzara.

“But I’m really happy that the girls have learned to trust each other—from setter, libero to our spikers—to just play their game,” said Dulce, a member of the Lyceum of the Philippines University volleyball team from 2012 to 2017.

Bethel Academy banked on middle blocker Mary Shane Retarta, open spiker Atasha Doroja, setter Marga Adia, libero Alyana Viniegra and spiker April Tre-inta to dominate the deciding third set.

Bethel Academy is scheduled to face Team Hiyara of Angono (Rizal) at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Volida Volleyball Club (Manila) at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Meawhile, Santa Rosa City (Laguna) notched its second win after prevailing over Canossa Academy of Lipa City (Batangas), 25-18, 25-15, in Pool C of the event supported by the Philippine Olympic Committee, Philippine Sports Commission, PLDT, Rebisco and Akari.

In Pool A, De La Salle-Lipa conquered New Gen Volleyball Club of Santa Cruz (Laguna), 25-11, 25-7, to remain unbeaten in two matches while Nagcarlan (Laguna) outplayed Parañaque Thunderbolts Club, 21-25, 25-14, 25-20.
