MANILA – Five Chinese nationals were arrested for illegally detaining a compatriot who failed to pay his debt in Parañaque City.

In a statement Monday, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Edgar Allan Okubo identified the suspects as Jiang Lincheng, 25; Wu Yazhou, 30; Li Siyuan, 32; Ding Fei, 24; and Chen Liqiang, 36.

The suspects were arrested at a hotel resort in Barangay Tambo for illegally detaining 33-year-old victim Lin Mingshan against his will inside Room 15025 from 11:50 a.m. to around 4:45 p.m. on Sunday.

Investigation showed that the suspects demanded PHP500,000 from the victim as payment for his debt. However, the victim failed to pay which resulted in his detention.

When the victim was brought by the suspects towards the exit to board a vehicle, he shouted for help which attracted the attention of the hotel's security personnel. This resulted in his rescue and the arrest of the suspects.

A complaint for illegal detention is being prepared against the arrested suspects for subsequent filing at the city prosecutor's office.

"We will strengthen our coordination with our security counterparts on the ground, noting that regardless of the nationality of both the victim and the perpetrators, this will not be tolerated here in the Metro. We will work diligently to respond in such similar reports of illegal detention to be able to rescue other possible victims among foreign nationals," Okubo said. (PNA)
