2 drug suspects yield nearly P7.5-M shabu, gun in Bataan

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Authorities have arrested two suspects and seized nearly PHP7.5 million worth of illegal drugs, gun and ammunition in Mariveles town, Bataan province on Wednesday night.

In his report on Thursday, Col. Romell Velasco, director of the Bataan Police Provincial Office, identified one of the suspects as Noel Dela Cruz.

The suspect's cohort is a minor.

Velasco said the two were arrested during the implementation of a search warrant for possession of firearms and illegal drugs in Sto. Domingo Village, Barangay San Isidro in the said town.

Seized from the suspects were one .45-caliber pistol loaded with ammunition, one holster, two magazines loaded with ammunition, two boxes containing 76 pieces of .22-caliber ammunition, one glass pipe, a weighing scale, one tickler, 14 pieces of medium to large size plastic sachets and two pieces of tea bags containing suspected shabu weighing some 1.1 kilos with an estimated street value of PHP7.48 million.

Velasco said the suspects will face charges for violation of Sections 11 and 12 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr., director of the Police Regional Office-Central Luzon (PRO-3), said the strengthened anti-illegal drug campaign and effective intelligence response to lawbreakers are being carried out with zeal in accordance with the directives of the Philippine National Police chief, Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., to maintain peace and order. (PNA)
