MANILA – A low pressure area (LPA) and the northeast monsoon or 'amihan' will bring rains over some areas in the country, the weather bureau said Monday.
Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over Caraga and Davao regions due to the LPA last spotted 630 km east southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
This LPA inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, said Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina.
However, the LPA is forecast to cause rains east of Mindanao, he said.
Rains caused by the northeast monsoon will be experienced over Cagayan Valley, the provinces of Apayao, Aurora and northern Quezon.
The said areas may experience flash floods or landslides due to moderate with at times heavy rains, PAGASA said.
The Visayas and the rest of Mindanao will have isolated rain showers caused by the LPA and localized thunderstorms. Flash floods or landslides are also possible during severe thunderstorms.
The rest of Luzon will have light rains caused by the northeast monsoon.
Meanwhile, Luzon and the eastern section of the Visayas and Mindanao will have moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas.
Rough to very rough seas will prevail over the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon. PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small seacraft not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said. (PNA)
