ZAMBOANGA CITY – Policemen arrested a farmer and a teenager over the weekend for posing as soldiers and for illegal possession of a firearm in Zamboanga del Sur, a top police official said Monday.

Brig. Gen. Neil Alinsañgan, Police Regional Office-9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) director, said Ramil Acquin, 33, and the teenager were arrested around Sunday afternoon in Dumingag town, Zamboanga del Sur.

Alinsañgan said personnel of Dumingag Municipal Police Station were conducting routine mobile patrol when they spotted Acquin driving a motorcycle with a .45-caliber pistol tucked on his waist.

When flagged down, the teenage back rider of Acquin introduced himself as an Army officer with a rank of major.

Acquin and his teenage companion were arrested after they failed to present documents for the pistol and present identification cards.

Alinsañgan said Acquin was also found in possession of an 8.5 inch kitchen knife.

The pair will be charged for illegal possession of firearm and deadly weapon as well as for impersonating as soldiers. (PNA)
