BUTUAN CITY – The Coast Guard Station in Surigao del Sur (CGS-SDS) ordered on Tuesday the temporary suspension of travels of several sea vessels as a low-pressure area (LPA) continues to threaten the province.

“Voyage of vessels will resume until further notice and upon the improvement of weather and sea condition,” Roden Aloc, the CGS-SDN station commander, said in a statement.

As of 3 a.m. Tuesday, the LPA was estimated at 340 kilometers southeast of Hinatuan town, Surigao del Sur province.

The LPA brought strong to gale force winds in the province that compelled the CGS-SDS to temporarily suspend voyage of vessels with 35 gross tonnage and below.

Vessel operators who intend to take shelter shall be permitted with a prior manifestation through a written request, Aloc said.

Meanwhile, local government units in the region also reminded residents to be on alert as the LPA continues to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms.

No suspension of classes and work were monitored in the region as of press time. (PNA)
