ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) has implemented a rationing scheme in two of its service areas effective March 14 due to supply shortage.

The affected areas are the Labuan and Vitali water systems catering to residents on the western and eastern parts of the city.

“These (Labuan and Vitali) are independent water systems. The rationing scheme will remain in effect until lifted,” Lawyer Mark Paredes, ZCWD spokesperson, said Tuesday.

Under the service areas of Labuan Water System, Sitio Campo Uno, Barangay Labuan will have water on Tuesday and every other day thereafter.

Likewise, Sitio Lawingan, Barangay Labuan and Barangay Patalon will have water on Wednesday and every other day.

Under the service areas of Vitali Water System, Sitio Bataan and Calle Posporo, Barangay Vitali and along the highway to the boundary of Barangay Mangusu will have water on Tuesday and every other day thereafter.

The left side of the highway to the boundary of Barangay Tictapul will have water on Wednesday and every other day while the right side of the highway to the border of Tictapul will have water on Thursday and every other day thereafter.

Meanwhile, Paredes said there was an improvement in the water level at the ZCWD’s diversion weir at Tumaga river in Barangay Pasonanca since Monday.

The Tumaga river is the main source of supply of the Pasonanca water treatment plant that serves the concessionaires within the seven-kilometer radius of the city.

“As of yesterday, the water level rise to 74.20 meters, which is the normal level. The latest information I receive this morning it was at 74.18 meters,” Paredes said.

He urged the concessionaires to help conserve water and to report any pipe leaks in their areas. (PNA)
