MANILA – The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) has announced the lowering of fuel surcharge, from Level 7 to Level 6, effective April 1 to 30.

Depending on the distance, the fuel surcharge under Level 6 may range from PHP610 to PHP4,538 for international flights, and from PHP185 to PHP665 for domestic destinations.

In an advisory signed on March 15, CAB Director Carmelo Arcilla said airlines wishing to impose or collect fuel surcharge must file their application with his office on or before the effectivity period.

The equivalent conversion rate is USD1 to PHP55.02.

Sought for comment, Philippine Airlines (PAL) spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said they will faithfully comply with the CAB's fuel surcharge matrix, and that this will apply to tickets that will be purchased in April.

AirAsia Philippines, on the other hand, said it considers the lowering of fuel surcharge a welcome development for its passengers.

"This comes timely as demand for the Holy Week and summer travels pick up which would encourage more people to experience the various tourist destinations in the Philippines and abroad," it said in a statement on Thursday.

The airline added that any form of reduction in ticket value will not only motivate people to travel but also spur economic activity in the destinations they fly to. (PNA)
