MANILA – Low-cost airline Cebu Pacific (CEB) will ramp up its operations to and from Cebu province with new routes, increased flight frequencies in some destinations, and additional fleet at Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA).

These boosts are expected to result in additional 76,000 seats per month, according to CEB on Monday.

Direct flights to Taipei will be offered daily starting June 23, bringing CEB's total international network via Cebu to five.

Earlier, it has announced the resumption of flights to Hong Kong on March 26, and to Narita, Japan on May 1.

Daily flights to Naga will begin on March 26.

"Cebu Pacific is proud to have its largest base outside Manila in one of the best airports in Asia. We are excited to further expand our Cebu hub to connect more travelers to some of the world’s best beaches and islands,” CEB chief marketing and customer experience officer Candice Iyog said in a statement.

CEB operates in 23 domestic destinations via Cebu, and 11 of these will have more frequencies starting March 26 and on May 5.

These include Butuan, Caticlan, Bacolod, Siargao, Dumaguete, Legazpi, General Santos City, Surigao, Clark, and Puerto Princesa.

Two additional aircraft will be based at the MCIA to support the expansion, bringing the total fleet at the Cebu hub to 13.

The airline, which is celebrating its 27th anniversary this month, has a seat sale from March 20 to 23 for select domestic and international routes.

CEB flew its maiden voyage from Manila to Cebu on March 8, 1996. (PNA)
