BUTUAN CITY – Dinagat Islands Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. was named the Best Reservist Officer of the Philippine Army.

Demerey holds the rank of Major in the Army Reserve Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

In a statement Thursday, the provincial government said the award serves as a pride for the people in the island province.

“Major Demerey received the award as best reservist officer for showing exemplary leadership as the commanding officer of the 1505th Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion and as a public official,” the statement said.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. personally handed over the award to Demerey during Wednesday’s 126th founding anniversary of the Philippine Army at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City.

The provincial government said Demerey is also a recipient of prestigious awards in the past for being an exemplary government servant, such as the Dangal ng Bayan Award and the 2022 Golden Globe Award for Exemplary Leadership from the Civil Service Commission.

He also previously received the Bronze Cross Medal and Gawad Kaunlaran awards from the Army. (PNA)
