4.8M individuals now fully vaxxed in C. Visayas

CEBU CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday said almost 5 million individuals in Central Visayas have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) since the vaccine rollout in March 2021.

In a report, the department’s regional office posted 4.8 million fully vaccinated individuals representing 84.64 percent of the total target population in the region.

The target population refers to 70 percent of the region’s population or 5.7 million individuals. Central Visayas has a total of 8.1 million population, the Philippine Statistics Authority recorded in 2022.

Meanwhile, at least 414,242 elderlies or 61.18 percent of the target A2 population which refers to 85 percent of the region’s senior citizen population have received the primary doses of the vaccine against Covid-19.
The health agency also reported that the region has recorded a total of 1.1 million individuals who availed of the booster shots.

Meanwhile, DOH-7 posted 65 new Covid-19 cases in Central Visayas from March 12 to 18, with one recorded death.

“The average number of new cases per day this week is only 9, which is 81 percent higher than the cases listed from March 5 to March 11. Of the new cases, not one case is considered critical. Meanwhile, one death was recorded from March 12 to 18,” the report said.

It also reminded residents of Central Visayas not to be complacent as the threat of Covid-19 is still present.

“We must continue to properly follow the minimum public health standard. The Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development reminds us to always wear a best-fitted facemask and if possible, stay in well-ventilated areas. If there are symptoms, isolate immediately,” it said. (PNA)
