Retired CA associate justice named new CHR commissioner

MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed retired Court of Appeals associate justice Monina Arevalo-Zenarosa to the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) as its new commissioner.

“Itinalaga bilang Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Commissioner ngayong araw si dating Associate Justice ng Court of Appeals, Atty. Monina Arevalo-Zenarosa (Atty. Monina Arevalo-Zenarosa, who is a former associate justice of the Court of Appeals, was appointed today as CHR commissioner)," the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) announced in a Facebook post.

Zenarosa took her oath of office in Malacañang on Thursday before Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, who is a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

So far, Marcos has appointed former Malacañang deputy secretary Richard Palpal-latoc as the chairperson, and lawyers Beda Epres and Faydah Dumarpa as commissioners.

“Sa kanyang malawak na karanasan sa larangan ng batas at pangangalaga sa karapatang pantao, magiging responsable si CHR Commissioner Zenarosa sa pagpapatupad ng mga karapatan ng lahat ng Pilipino, partikular na ng mga marhinalisado (With her extensive legal expertise and experience in protecting human rights, Zenarosa will be responsible in promoting the human rights of all Filipinos, particularly the marginalized),” the PCO said.
