Maynilad schedules daily water interruption starting March 28

MANILA – The Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) on Monday announced a daily water interruption starting March 28 due to the forecast El Niño by the latter half of this year.

In an advisory, Maynilad said it has been monitoring the water level in Angat Dam, which supplies 90 percent of the water supply for the West Zone in the National Capital Region (NCR).

“While the elevation is still at a healthy level as of mid-March, the increased likelihood of an El Niño phenomenon taking place by the latter half of 2023 is a concerning development that calls for measures to preserve our limited water stores,” Maynila said in a statement.

“We have existing supply augmentation measures, such as the reactivation of deep wells and commissioning of modular treatment plants. But these will only mitigate the impact of a shortage that can happen if stored water in Angat Dam dips further, given the expected dry spell. The effect is already seen at Ipo Dam, where water elevation has started going down over the past few weeks,” it added.
