Comelec adjusts other activities for village, youth polls

MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has adjusted other scheduled activities for the Oct. 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

Among them was the election period for the BSKE which would be from Aug. 28 to Nov. 29, based on Resolution No. 10902 approved by the Comelec en banc on March 22.

The original date of the election period was from July 3 to Nov. 14.

During this period, the poll body prohibits the carrying or transporting of firearms or other deadly weapons in public places; use of security personnel or bodyguards by candidates; raising of funds through dances, lotteries, and cockfights; vote-buying and vote-selling; and wagering upon the result of the election.

Also banned are the transfer or detail of officers and employees in the civil service; coercing, threatening, intimidating, or terrorizing any election official or employee; illegal release of prisoners before and after elections; organization or maintenance of reaction or strike forces; and suspension of local elective officials.

On the other hand, campaign activities are not allowed from Sept. 3 to Oct. 18, it was pushed back from the original dates of July 8 to Oct. 18.

The campaign period where candidates are allowed to promote themselves to their constituents will be from Oct. 19 to 28.

On Election Day, voters may vote from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Earlier, the Comelec moved the filing period of the Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) from July 3 to 7 to Aug. 28 to Sept. 2. (PNA)
