LAOAG, Ilocos Norte – A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck off Burgos, Ilocos Norte on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The tectonic quake struck 56 km. west of Burgos at 1:51 p.m. Its focus was 12 km. deep.

In the provincial capital, some employees of the Ilocos Norte Capitol rushed out of the building during the temblor.

Intensity IV was felt in Pasuquin, Bacarra, Laoag City, Carasi, Burgos, and Batac City.

Phivolcs also logged Intensity I in Sinait in neighboring Ilocos Sur province.

Reported intensity is the traditional way of knowing the intensity based on reports of people who felt the earthquake. Instrumental intensity, on the other hand, is measured using an intensity meter that measures ground acceleration.

Phivolcs said aftershocks and damage are not expected from the magnitude 4.6 quake. (PNA)
