CEBU CITY – Four major reclamation projects in Cebu province are expected to boost its position as a strategic location for trade and industry in Central Visayas, the provincial capitol said on Friday.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said the organizations that are now undertaking reclamation activities are Cebu South Harbor Container Terminal Corporation in Talisay City, Cebu South Harbor in neighboring Minglanilla town, Cebu Industrial Park Developers in West Cebu’s Balamban town, and Dynacast in the northern city of Danao.

Garcia said the reclamation projects will also increase the provincial government’s real estate assets, as the groups are set to enter into an agreement to allocate at least 10 percent of their reclaimed properties to the capitol.

“The firms are expected to sign an agreement with the capitol next month for this necessary requirement under the capitol’s reclamation ordinance,” a statement from the capitol said.

Provincial Ordinance 2009-02 provides that any reclamation developer must turn over 10 percent of their reclaimed land to the provincial government.

Under the ordinance, all reclamation activities in Cebu province must seek approval from the Cebu Provincial Reclamation Authority.

The Cebu South Harbor reclamation is a PHP10-billion project that is projected as the next container-handling powerhouse in Central Visayas, while the Cebu South Port in Minglanilla is a five-hectare expandable port development that can accommodate ocean-going Panamax vessels.

The Cebu Industrial Park Developers is a joint venture project of AboitizLand and Tsuneishi Holdings Corporation of Japan in the shipbuilding town of Balamban.

Dynacast Shipbuilding and Repairs in Danao City provides a full range of shipyard services, including ship repairs, shipbuilding, fabrications, repowering and modernized engineering. (PNA)
