SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique - The province of Antique vows to send its most competitive athletes to the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) slated in Aklan later this month, following the success of the recent Antique Provincial Athletic Association Meet (APAAM).

Dr. Oliver Servillon, Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Antique sports officer, said in an interview Tuesday that the APAAM held on March 31 to April 2 paved the way for the selection of athletes who will represent Antique in the WVRAA.

Sports events, such as the APAAM, are crucial in the holistic development of elementary and secondary learners, according to Servillon.

"There will already be coaches meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) to discuss the further training of athletes who will be sent to the WVRAA on April 26-30," Servillon said.

The official results during the APAAM showed Cluster 2 schools from the municipality of San Jose de Buenavista besting the three other clusters.

Cluster 2 garnered 36 gold, 36 silver, and 15 bronze medals in the elementary level; and 89 gold, 59 silver, and 37 bronze medals in the secondary level.

Cluster 3, composed of schools from the towns of Belison, Patnongon, Valderrama, Bugasong, Laua-an, and Barbaza, placed second with 51 gold, 50 silver, and 75 bronze medals.

Around 2,000 athletes competed in 22 events. (PNA)
