MANILA – The low pressure area (LPA) east of Catanduanes developed into Tropical Depression (TD) Amang and is forecast to bring rains and gusty winds over Northern and Eastern Samar, the weather bureau said Tuesday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned of possible flooding or landslides due to moderate to heavy with at times intense rains, and minimal to minor threat to lives and properties due to strong winds.
Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to Amang are also forecast over Central Visayas, Caraga, Bicol Region and the rest of Eastern Visayas.
These areas may also experience flash floods or landslides due to moderate with at times heavy rains, according to PAGASA.
Strong breeze to near gale strength winds will be experienced in areas where Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been hoisted -- Catanduanes, northern portion of Eastern Samar (Taft, Can-Avid, Sulat, Dolores, Oras, Arteche, San Policarpo, Jipapad, Maslog, San Julian) and the eastern portion of Northern Samar (Catubig, Lapinig, Gamay, Mapanas, Palapag, Laoang, San Roque, Pambujan, Mondragon).
Rough seas will prevail in the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon and the northern and eastern seaboards of the Visayas.
Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.
Meanwhile, Amang is forecast to remain offshore over the waters east of Luzon for the next three days, but a landfall scenario over the Bicol Peninsula area or the northern portion of Samar Island is not ruled out.
Amang is also expected to remain as a tropical depression and weaken into an LPA by Thursday or Friday. (PNA)
