PERTH, AUSTRALIA – Georgi Peev from Haskovo, southcentral Bulgaria became world swimming champion at the 2023 World Transplant Games in Perth, Australia.

Peev is the only Bulgarian with two transplanted organs - a heart and a kidney.

He won the gold medal in the 100m breaststroke in the men's 40-49 age category, he said on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

Peev and his teammate, Ognyan Ganchev, qualified and reached the finals in their disciplines.

Ganchev finished fifth in the 50m backstroke in the 60-69 age category.

The two are the only Bulgarian representatives at the forum.

On Wednesday, Peev will swim the 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle and Ganchev the 100m backstroke.

In their post, the two thanked their families, their donors' families, their doctors and everyone who has supported them financially and with equipment. (BTA)
