7 farmers' groups in Dinagat Island get P7.4-M machinery

BUTUAN CITY – Seven farmers' organizations in Dinagat Islands province received various types of farming equipment and machinery from the provincial government.

In a statement Thursday, Gov. Nilo Demerey Jr. said the farmers' associations received over PHP7.4 million worth of machinery consisting of a seed cleaner, single-pass rice mill, floating tiller, mechanical rice thresher and a multi-cultivator.

In addition, the farming groups also received a hand tractor, a rice combine harvester and a four-wheel drive farm tractor.

“The farm equipment will help our farmers increase their productivity and improve their income,” Demerey said about the farming support turned over Wednesday at the garage area of the provincial government in Barangay Cuarinta, San Jose town.

During the turnover ceremony, the beneficiaries signed a memorandum of agreement with the provincial government indicating the acceptance, management and maintenance of the equipment.

In a separate statement, the recipients noted that land preparation, planting and harvesting can now be done properly and on time with the aid of the new equipment. (PNA)
