BUTUAN CITY – At least 9,542 workers are set to benefit from the PHP39.9 million payout under the cash-for-work scheme of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 13 (Caraga Region) on May 1, which coincides with the Labor Day celebration.

DOLE-13 Director Joffrey Suyao said the beneficiaries are from the different provinces who rendered 15 days of work and community service under the DSWD’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.

The TUPAD beneficiaries will end their work on or before the scheduled release of the payment on May 1, Suyao said.

“A total of 44,142 displaced workers in the region have already benefited from the TUPAD program from January to March this year,” he said, adding that about PHP167 million was dispensed to the recipients.

Data provided by DOLE-13 indicated that the May 1 TUPAD payees consisted of 4,914 from Surigao del Norte, 2,440 from Surigao del Sur; 1,303 from Dinagat Islands; 519 from Agusan del Sur; and 366 from Agusan del Norte.

Last year, DOLE-13 also released PHP592 million worth of payments to 134,570 program beneficiaries in the region. (PNA)
