COTABATO CITY – An off-duty police officer died instantly after his car collided head-on with a pick-up vehicle along the national highway in Kabacan, North Cotabato on Wednesday night.

Capt. Razul Pandulo, Kabacan municipal police station deputy chief, said their colleague, Corporal Teodolfo Garavilles, was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital after the 8 p.m. highway mishap.

In a report Thursday, Pandulo said an investigation was ongoing with the driver of the other vehicle, identified as Louizer Malazarte of Carmen town in the same province.

Witnesses said both vehicles were speeding fast on opposite lanes before they collided in Barangay Osias.

Police are determining if the driver of the pick-up vehicle was under the influence of liquor at the time of the incident.

Pandulo said relatives of the dead cop are determined to press charges against Malazarte, who is now detained at the Kabacan municipal police station. (PNA)
