MIMAROPA posts 6.3% GRDP growth in 2022

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – The MIMAROPA Region displayed much-improved economic performance in 2022 compared to the previous year, according to the latest official government figures.

In a report released on Thursday, the Philippine Statistics Authority revealed that MIMAROPA’s Gross Regional Domestic Performance (GRDP) grew 6.3 percent last year.

This almost doubled the five-province region’s 3.3 percent GRDP growth in 2021, and even surpassed pre-pandemic levels.

Leni Rioflorido, PSA’s regional director in MIMAROPA, said during a press briefing that the transportation and storage sector posted the highest growth rate of 41.3 percent.

Other industries that exhibited notable results were: accommodation and food service activities posted 38.2 percent increase while the construction sector registered a 13.5 percent rise.

Meanwhile, professional and business services rose 9.1 percent, the education sector grew 6.5 percent and the information and communication industry managed a 6.2 percent uptick.

On the down side, the industries that exhibited decline were mining and quarrying, which sank 5.1 percent; and agriculture, forestry and fishing with a negative 2.4 percent performance, the PSA’s report also showed.
